Hey you!

This post has moved to our new blog!

  1. It’s 9 lines long? Somehow I expected something longer. Is a lot of opposition to this bill expected?

  2. there is some opposition yes – those opposing it are “in support of breastfeeding” and they hint that they wouldn’t be comfortable with a modesty clause, but they don’t seem to want such strong language as is being proposed by assemblywoman pasch in her amendment of the bill. (In such a location no person may prohibit a mother from breast- feeding her child, request or direct a mother to move to another location to breast-feed her child, request or direct a mother to cover her child or breast while breast-feeding, or otherwise restrict a mother from breast-feeding.)

arguments about legislating behavior, hesitance about a fine being attached to those who do hassle a mom, etc.

a similar version of this bill was stalled out in committee a few years ago and didn’t go anywhere because of similar sorts of arguments. it seems like a no-brainer to so many of us, and yet…

  3. Thanks so much for giving us the heads up on this!

Apparently, the bill passed and now they have to come to some agreement between the Assembly version and the version of the bill that passed in Senate a few months ago. Once they reach a compromise, Governer Doyle has promised to approve it. So hooray!

Does anybody know if there’s a way to check out who voted yes/no on this bill? I emailed my Assembly rep yesterday and he never responded. I have a pretty good idea how he voted but I’d like to know for certain.

i was up there for the vote but had to leave at 1 when they hadn’t come back from caucus yet as i needed to get to a meeting i couldn’t miss. hope that risser works hard to support pasch’s version in the senate!
